5 Things You Should Never Say To A Black Girl!

So today's post is a tad humorous, however there is an element of the truth stuck in there for good measure. A laced joke, if you will? Some of the statements below have been said to me directly, indirectly, or my friends/family, or about Black people on social media.

Source: Instagram & Google
  1. Is that your natural hair?
  2. Why don't you do something with your hair?
  3. When I see you don't look Black (or Ghanaian, Nigerian, Jamaican etc.)?
  4. Why don't you wear weave?
  5. Why are y'all (black people) so loud, ghetto, ratchet?
Sometimes I think when people say these statements, they don't mean to cause offence, and other times I think they just don't care. Either way, I think it is always best to err on the side of caution, when about to make a comment that could be deemed racially insensitive.

#CurrentlyCoveting- December 2014 Wishlist

The weather has taken a turn for the worst recently, so it is only common sense that when making this month's wishlist, I had to include a blanket wrap cape. They are very on-trend and providing you get a thick one, are quite warm too. If you get a light one, make sure to wear layers underneath. I didn't include jewellery for the look, but to accessorise I would add a chunky bangle (any of the colours of the cape squares), a medium to large sized watch and some rings.

1) Colour Block Cape, Mid Brown- £28 at Miss Selfridge
2) Moto Joni Jeans, Black- £36 at Topshop
3) Polo Neck Ribbed Jumper, Black- £16 at M&S
4) Women's Gallop Boots, Black & Brown- £100 at Schuh
5) Lola Shopper Bag, Tan- £24.99 at ASOS (via New Look)

#ThrowbackThursday- I dunno about you but I'm feeling 22...

This is quite a belated post, as my birthday was more than 3 weeks ago now. But I thought I'd do a mini-photo diary of my 22nd birthday. Birthdays for me are not a joke, I always get my nails, hair and makeup done. It's a yearly ritual, which I just have to do, otherwise it doesn't feel like my birthday. This year I added henna to the mix too :)

For my 22nd, I had various beauty treatments throughout the week, a house/ pyjama party on Friday, and went to the Garrick Theatre on Sat afternoon to watch The Scottsboro Boys.
Yes, I went to Tooting just for henna #mehndi

After my hair & makeup appointment

I'd like so give a massive s/o to Emma from MAC in Covent Garden; she was my MUA and was AMAZING! I was quite specific with how I wanted my makeup done and I feel like she went above and beyond to deliver. I asked for dewy glowy makeup with dark eyes, a red ombre lip, an uncontoured nose and highlighted cheeks. And as you can see she literally took on board what I said.

The Journey of Life

Maybe the journey
isn't so much about
becoming ANYTHING?

Maybe it's about
un-becoming EVERYTHING
that isn't really you
so that you can be
who you were meant to be
in the first place!

"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world..."
(Romans 12:2, New Living Translation)
